Mission Statement

The mission of Beverly Heights Student Ministries is to win, build and equip students to become devoted followers of Christ and devoted friends to one another and to help their families create supportive environments for their Christian formation.

Vision Statement

A loving community of students and adults who are passionately seeking the heart of God and actively bringing Christ and His Kingdom to wherever God has sovereignly scattered us each and every day.

During the 10AM Christian Education hour, we have 2 classrooms for students in grades 6-12. We call our “Sunday Schools” classes “Construction Sites” for the Middle and High School Students which is “A Place to Build Your Faith.”

Middle School Construction Site, is a formal environment where students study the Bible using the DWELL curriculum from Faith Alive Christian Resources, Biblical teaching from a Reformed perspective. In a culture that worships busyness, DWELL Sunday school curriculum encourages students to pause and wonder, imagine, and interact with different parts of God’s Story. And as they do, they will discover that God is still at work in the world and in their lives.

High School Construction is also a formal environment where students study the Bible using Classic Theological curricular approach which includes Old Testament Study, New Testament Study, Church History, Systematic Theology and Practical Theology and Missions. This class is taught primarily by Pastors Rick Wolling and Nate Devlin as well as Elder Norm Hargraves.

At Beverly Heights, our middle school program ministers to grades 6 – 8. On Sunday mornings, we have our Sunday School program, which we call Construction Sites. See the Sunday morning tab for more on that.

Our Sunday evening Youth Group, which we call Middle School SCREAM which stands for “Serving Christ Righteously and Enthusiastically Among Mankind”. This is an informal environment where students enjoy fun and fellowship as they discuss how faith in the Lord Jesus Christ relates to their everyday lives in large group and small group settings. Meetings are specifically designed for either Winning students to Christ or Building students in Christ.

We also use a variety of other events to reach out to our middle school students such as (but never limited to!):

  • Wednesday Night Heights Programming – see the Wednesday Night Heights tab for details.
  • Winter confirmation class (see Confirmation Class tab for details) which is primarily 8th grade students.
  • Middle School Lock-Ins where we stay at the church overnight. We usually have a guest speaker and activities that are more involved from a time perspective!
  • Fall Laurelville Weekend Retreat – this is a Gospel-centric retreat gear specifically for middle school students that is run by the Pittsburgh Kid’s Foundation.
  • Teen Quest Camp Winter Weekend Retreat – our near Seven Springs, this retreat gives students another opportunity to do things they don’t usually get to do, such as winter challenge courses, horseback riding, winter paintball and much much more!
  • Summer Mission Trip – See the Mission Trips tab for more information.

At Beverly Heights, our high school program ministers to grades 9 – 12. On Sunday mornings, we have our Sunday School program, which we call Construction Sites. See the Sunday morning tab for more on that.

Our Sunday evening Youth Group, is called High School Youth-Connect. This is a student-led, adult assisted small groups. Meetings are specifically designed for winning students to Christ as student leaders present the Gospel (Good News!) of Jesus Christ each week and give their peers an opportunity to make and informed decision about starting a personal relationship with Christ. Our groups also grapple with how to apply Biblical principles to our every day lives, especially in a secular world.

For 10 to 12 weeks each fall and spring we have programming that also includes Middle and High School Students. From 4:00p.m. until 5:30, middle and high school students are invited to The HUB. Led by Joe Williams and Julie Staaf, they have a time for fellowship, activities, object lessons and even to do their homework! After that is done, they are then invited to join the rest of the Beverly Height’s church family in the church Social Room where dinner is served for a nominal fee.

Many students also volunteer to help in the children’s ministry which is full of various activities for all of the rest of the age groups during this time as well!

Passing on the particulars of the faith to the next generation (known as catechesis), is extremely important. Students have the opportunity to better understand many facets of our faith through our confirmation class which is led by our Associate Pastor, Nate Devlin. This class takes place in the winter months and is primarily 8th graders, but will sometimes have older students in it as well.

Sometimes the best way to learn about something is to do it. Our summer mission trips are centered around giving students the chance to show God’s love to others around the world! We have two regular trips at this point.

West Virginia Mission Trip
Since 2003 we have been partnered with the Storehouse of God, a ministry based in Morgantown, WV and led by pastor Johnny Whitehair. Students grades 6-12 and some college students each year go down for a week and work alongside Pastor Johnny and his church members to impact that area by leading a VBS program and participating in numerous building projects. This has been an awesome long term partnership!

Haiti Mission Trip
Since 2013 we have been exploring and building a partnership in northern Haiti. This over seas mission trip is offered to our older students who have already been on the West Virginia trip. Usually limited to 10th-12th graders and college students, we are partnering with a family and church in Cap Haitien in northern Haiti. Our current ministry is one of relationship building and encouragement, and we are excited to see what avenues God will continue to open in this partnership!
