Jen Tan

Ministry Associate for Hospitality

Jen is a graduate of Grove City College, class of 2001, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology.

She worked for the University of Pittsburgh’s Hillman Cancer Center as a research assistant in immunology until she was called into motherhood.

In 2004, she first came to Beverly Heights as a tagalong with her then boyfriend Kevin Tan – now husband – who was filling in as a bass player in the worship band.

She was immediately impressed with the warmth of the congregation and depth of spiritual nurturing found here, and joined shortly thereafter.

Jen and Kevin have four children: Benjamin, Noah, Evangeline and Teddy.

She assumed her current role in the Fall of 2018.

“A lot of what I do is modeled on the verse in Romans 12:13, ‘Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality.’ In every culture of the world, sharing a meal with someone is an act of fellowship and intimacy and in many cultures, food is equated with love.”

In fact, in Malaysia, where Kevin was born, a common greeting between friends is “Sudah makan?,” which translates as, “Have you eaten yet?”

Her vision is to make meals similar to those she serves to her family here because her immediate family, in Cape Cod near Boston, is 600 miles away, while Kevin’s is 10,000.

“YOU are my family,” she says.

She’s grateful for the opportunity to be entrusted with this vital role in the life of Beverly Heights.
