Dear Friends in Christ,
As we enter the Memorial Day weekend flush with enthusiasm over the advance of our Pittsburgh Penguins to the Stanley Cup Finals and, more importantly, the Lord’s Day approaches I want to make you aware of a number of items of interest to all in our congregation:
We will worship according to our regular worship schedule this Sunday – New Worship will be at 8:40 A.M. and Morning Worship will be at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Devlin, even now, is preparing to deliver the 3rd sermon in our latest series The Spirit in All We Do. He will be focusing on our third ministry essential which is discipleship. We will also hear words of personal testimony from Tom O’Boyle.
Those of you who worship at Morning Worship are in for a treat. Approximately 15 men of our congregation have formed a men’s chorus to sing The Navy Hymn (Eternal Father Strong to Save) in commemoration of Memorial Day.
At the 10:00 A.M. Sunday School hour I will be teaching a class for all adults entitled Communion With Our Kids. This is a class that is long overdue and I will try to provide guidance to parents regarding their children’s participation in our celebrations of the Lord’s Supper.
On behalf of our Haiti Team 2017 I want to thank you for your help in our Hoagies for Haiti fund raiser last week. Over 270 hoagies were purchased with over 100 being donated to the Living Stones food ministry. Thanks to all who participated.
An additional opportunity to raise material costs for the mission trip to Haiti is the Haiti Car Wash to be held on Saturday, June 3rd, 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Plan to bring all of your cars, get them washed and help speed our team on their way to Cap Haitien on June 28th!
Finally, let me encourage you to continue to pray for our EPC missionary Andrew Brunson. Our General Assembly Stated Clerk, Jeff Jeremiah, sent out an extremely discouraging and ominous update just yesterday which he followed up with an additional update, asking that no details of his initial report be shared publically. Andrew is facing some very serious charges and, according to Jeff’s report, it appears that President Trump’s discussion about Andrew with Turkey’s President Erdogan and events immediately following the discussion reveal that there are political dynamics involved in this issue that are must deeper, riskier and more serious than first believed. But then, again, we pray to and serve the One Who is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Still, we must pray.
The most wonderful day of the week, the Lord’s Day, is upon us. ‘Hope to see you then.
Faithfully in Him,
