Brief Biography

Erin and Dave met in Tokyo, Japan at a small international school.  Dave’s parents were missionaries with Mission to the World, and Erin’s parents were teachers at the school where they met.  Dave followed Erin and his love of baseball to Geneva College where they both experienced a reformation of their understanding of God’s love for them and His plans for all of creation.  Dave met Nate Devlin while at Geneva and formed a close friendship, which eventually led to Nate's introducing the Bindewalds and campus ministry at CMU to
Beverly Heights.

Their ministry at Carnegie Mellon has had to be specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of this prestigious institution.  CMU students are incredibly busy, overwhelmed, and often isolated from strong community and friendship.  Thus, the majority of their time is spent in small group discipleship, forming strong relationships with students and inviting them into an intentional time of examining Christian faith and philosophy, and then asking students to commit to following Christ with all of their lives.  They hold weekly community dinners that reach out to a diverse group of students—undergraduate, graduate, men, women, international students, non-Christians, and Christians.  Many of their relationships are begun through these dinners, and they have seen the power of Grace and God’s love grab the attention of many student.  They also hold weekly Bible Studies for co-ed, women, and athlete groups.

Their excitement in being specifically at CMU is driven by the possibilities of gifted students being transformed by the Gospel and the Biblical worldview.  They strive to challenge students with the idea that God has made and loves all of creation—every area, sphere, field of study, and realm.  They are convinced that God wants His people working and playing in every part of the world He has made.  If students as influential as CMU students come to understand this, the possibilities are staggering.  Imagine professionals at the top of their respective fields in engineering, computer science, communications, education, architecture, drama, and business working to redeem these areas for the Kingdom of God!  They are proud to be working alongside us to join with Christ as He works to make all things as they were meant to be!
