The Pittsburgh Project
Serving the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA
Please Pray
1. That urban children and youth experience academic success, build healthy relationships, serve as change agents in their communities, and follow Christ
2. That vulnerable seniors live in decent and safe homes, are surrounded by the support systems they need for healthy and hopeful living, and that they know that they are loved by God and remembered by His people
3. That youth and families who participate in our service learning programs experience God’s love for cities and discover how they might be agents of renewal in urban centers
4. That our urban neighborhoods defeat the forces of crime and violence and experience anew God’s love, vision, and provision
5. That our Board and staff continue to have God’s heart forged in ours as we attempt to be faithful to the vision of Pittsburgh as a city of truth where the least among us fare well (Zech. 8:4-5)

Brief History
Founded in 1985 and directed by Saleem Ghubril, The Pittsburgh Project is an urban, neighborhood-based, Christian community development organization. They desire to restore the North Side to a community where young and old live peacefully in conditions that give dignity and meaning to life. Their purpose is to train up servant-leaders through a progressive series of youth development programs in which North Side children and young people can grow academically, relationally, and spiritually. Then they may be better prepared to transform the culture and serve their neighborhoods, schools, and home churches.
The Pittsburgh Project has 28 gifted people as staff, plus 75 temporary members at various points during the year. Many people from Beverly Heights have been involved in work camps or weekend projects. In service camps, young people learn to become agents of renewal in their neighborhoods, schools, and home churches. Through homeowner services, they uphold the dignity of vulnerable homeowners through home repairs, visitation, and links with social services and local churches. They work toward ensuring that every homeowner is able to live in a safe, healthy, and accessible home, with all the social networks needed for optimal living. The spirit in which their mission is pursued, as image-bearers of God under the lordship of Jesus Christ, is as important as the mission itself.
