1. That urban children and youth experience academic success, build healthy
relationships, serve as change agents in their communities, and follow Christ
2. That vulnerable seniors live in decent and safe homes, are surrounded by the
support systems they need for healthy and hopeful living, and that they know
that they are loved by God and remembered by His people
3. That youth and families who participate in Service Camps experience God’s
love for cities and discover how they might be agents of renewal in urban
centers
4. That our people in urban neighborhoods defeat the forces of crime and
violence and experience anew God’s love, vision, and provision
5. That The Project’s board and staff continue to have God’s heart forged in theirs
as they attempt to be faithful to the vision of Pittsburgh as a city of truth
where the least among us fare well (Zech. 8:4-5)
Brief History
The Pittsburgh Project develops servant leaders and upholds the dignity of
vulnerable homeowners.Their work is
city-wide, with special emphasis on Pittsburgh’s
North Side neighborhoods.
The Pittsburgh Project is a
nonprofit Christian community development organization with a 25-year track
record of developing leaders and serving the city’s most vulnerable
residents. Its year-round staff of 60 operates a progressive series of
afterschool and summer programs for urban young people, deploys over 2500
people annually to perform free home repairs for Pittsburgh’s
in-need elderly homeowners, and spearheads economic development and job-training
efforts in its Pittsburgh
neighborhood. Its affairs are managed by a 14-member board of directors
and an independent financial audit of its $3 million budget is completed
annually.
Many people from BeverlyHeights have been
involved in service camps or as volunteer tutors. In service camps, young people learn to
become agents of renewal in their neighborhoods, schools, and home churches. They
uphold the dignity of vulnerable homeowners through home repairs, visitation, and
links with social services and local churches. They work toward ensuring that
every homeowner is able to live in a safe, healthy, and accessible home, with
all the social networks needed for optimal living.Tutors assist kids with math, reading, or other
afterschool homework help, under the guidance of our staff. They provide witness and testimony to God’s
grace through Christ, and encouragement toward academic success.
