Brief History

Many individuals come to Pittsburgh from other nations of the world and never get a chance to step into an American home. Many of them are curious about Western culture and Christianity. Who is going to tell them about Jesus? Who is going to be their friend?

The goal of P.R.I.S.M. is to befriend unreached people groups through those who come here to study and return as witnesses for Christ in their homelands. The programs are designed to serve the international community by meeting practical needs and by proclaiming the Gospel in a culturally sensitive manner. P.R.I.S.M. works closely with American and ethnic churches in the Pittsburgh region.

Pittsburgh Region International Student Ministries, Inc. is a dynamic network of cross cultural programs and ministries to international students and visiting scholars. "Full-cycle ministry" is the driving principle behind this ministry. Full-cycle means that, from the moment we meet international students, we are already praying for their future witness in the lands of their origins.

P.R.I.S.M. was founded in 1980 by Dr. Carl Templin. The staff, with the help of many volunteers, conducts programs that include English classes, Friendship Partners, trips (Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., Florida), Go West camping program, hosting weekends, cooking classes, Bible studies, conferences, holiday hosting, and a weekly dinner called P.R.I.S.M. Open House. A growing number of Beverly Heights’ members currently are involved with Friendship Partners and serving dinners at Bellefield Church. More volunteers are always needed and encouraged.

Rev. Scott Boyd, previously a church planter in Slovenia, is currently director of P.R.I.S.M. Scott and Lisa are the parents of 4 boys: Jonathan, Ryan, Matthew, and Tommy. In addition to her contributions to P.R.I.S.M., Lisa is the Activities Director at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
