Serving the Pittsburgh Community as the Executive Director of the North Side Christian Health Center (NSCHC)
Please Pray
1. For a smooth transition in their new building 2. For ongoing help at the front desk to answer phones (Diana Cole Williams, who grew up and was married at Beverly Heights, does some of this work) 3. For continued funding of their staffing needs 4. For God's continued provision as their center reaches out to the Pittsburgh community in the name of Christ
Brief History
What makes the North Side Christian Health Center different? It's not just the quality of medical care, nor the willingness to welcome patients who can't pay. The center also stands out because of their commitment to live out their core values and to reaffirm those values daily through staff prayer and spiritual devotion. The core values of NSCHC, which are a wonderful reminder of Christ, are as follows:
Community—As a Christian community, we follow the command of Scripture to treat others with forgiveness, love, and unity.
Dignity—We view people with respect, recognizing them as created in the image of God and for a purpose.
Integrity—We seek to handle all our relationships and responsibilities honestly and morally.
Excellence—Knowing that all we do is done for the Lord, we set high standards and provide our best effort to our patients, our coworkers, and our city.
Compassion—Like Jesus, we seek to demonstrate compassion to all, and especially to the "least of these."
Prayer—We recognize the power of prayer and live in faithful dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
Service—We believe in following the example of Jesus who came to serve and not to be served.
The North Side Christian Health Center opened in 1995 and is committed to whole-person care, reaching out to heal bodies, minds, and souls. All patients receive quality care regardless of their ability to pay. The physicians provide full-time coverage during regular office hours and are available on call in emergency situations.
Floyd Cephas is the Executive
Director of the HealthCenter with full-time board certified
physicians and a new pediatrician, licensed physician assistants, social
workers, and professional support staff, all of whom see this work as their
mission. NSCHC is able to serve homebound patients, the elderly, homeless
patients, and infants and young children in our new pediatric Child and Family
Health Center, in addition to providing a full array of primary whole-person
health care and personal counseling services.
In
1993, BeverlyHeights committed to be
mission partners with NSCHC. Anne Martindale Williams and several of her
colleagues organized and provided an orchestra fund-raiser. Rick Wolling and
other volunteers helped with small construction jobs. Some BeverlyHeights members use this center for all of
their medical needs in order to support the Center's efforts and receive
excellent care.
