Brief History
For over 100 years, the New Wilmington Mission Conference has promoted the mission spirit to tens of thousands of young people and has seen thousands commit themselves to a vocation of serving Jesus Christ in parts of the world that were unreached with the Gospel. Each summer 1,000 to 1,500 people gather at Westminster College, just ninety minutes from Pittsburgh, to be challenged by the claims of Christ in their lives, and to be excited about what God is doing throughout the world today.
The primary purpose of this conference is to deepen the missionary spirit, with a view to the fulfillment of our Lord’s Great Commission. To this end, a prominent place is given in the conference to mission interpretation and to the presentation of the duty and ideal of carrying the gospel to ALL the world. Because of the vital relations existing between the missionary spirit and the deep spiritual life, the conference aims at the cultivation of a life of fellowship with God by promoting service and witness for Jesus Christ.
The New Wilmington Mission Conference (NWMC) Endowment Foundation was established in 1975 in order to help underwrite and financially support the Christian programs and mission activities of the New Wilmington Mission Conference. The NWMC Endowment Foundation assures the viability of the conference, encourages creativity in reaching out to young people, and helps raise up the next generation of leaders in mission and ministry.
Carl and Pat grew up at the Beverly Heights Church. The Templins served as missionaries in Ethiopia for 11 years. Upon return, Carl founded and directed the Pittsburgh Region International Student Ministries (see PRISM) for 23 years. Starting in 1994, Dr. Carl Templin has served as the volunteer President of NWMCEF, currently he is a Trustee for the NWMCEF. As NWMC prepared for its centennial in 2005, Pat Templin was asked to chair the Development Funds Campaign. The Templins thank God for the opportunity to be used to help in this incredible work of the New Wilmington Mission Conference.
