Barb’s relationship with Christ began in 1978 when attending Beverly Heights Church. While working in Erie in 1979, she met Bill, who was working for the Coalition for Christian Outreach with students from Gannon University. They married in 1981 and moved to Massachusetts, where Bill finished his Masters Degree in Cross-Cultural Ministry at Gordon-Conwell Seminary. They spent the summer of 1982 in Calcutta, India. Then the Lord led them to work with international students at PSU. When they started, there was no one ministering to the 1000+ international students. Today there are more than 4000 international students and scholars at PSU who have the chance to hear about Jesus’ love because of the ministry of the Saxtons.

Bill considers himself privileged to represent Christ on the campus of Penn State University. As advisor to the International Christian Fellowship student organization and Director of the International Ministries (IMPS), he serves as the liaison with Penn State offices of International Programs and Religious Affairs and is a well-known Christian presence in the PSU international community. Bill considers it a privilege and serious responsibility to represent Jesus and to be used to attract people to Him.

The Saxton’s ministry involves welcoming activities for new students and a weekly Friday night program involving dinner, an English class, a beginner Bible study, a discipleship time, and a worship and testimony time. Bill also meets with students individually and takes them on monthly trips.

Barb’s involvement with international students, though part-time, includes coordinating weekly dinners for 50-70 folks, hosting the weekly small group in their home, and maintaining regular contact with a number of women—both past and present female international students or spouses. All are blessed by her friendship, wise counsel, and servant heart.
