Brief Biography

Jim grew up attending Beverly Heights Church. He has had an outstanding career as a surgeon in Eastern PA. He and his wife Ellie, a nurse, have also volunteered in Ethiopia. In 1990, Jim and Ellie felt God’s call to serve in Africa as medical missionaries. They first served in Luampa hospital in the western province. At the age when many are retired, Jim has worked out an agreement to serve in Zambia at the 1800-bed University Teaching Hospital (where the medical school is located) in Lusaka and as head of the Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship, with Ellie at his side.

Upon returning to Zambia in January 2007, Jim immediately assumed the position of external examiner in the Surgical Department of the University Teaching Hospital, and Ellie resumed her wound care work on the wards. In addition to teaching, Jim mentors students and helps them to attend valuable Christian conferences. He loves these opportunities to encourage the medical and dental students and to minister to their needs.

Jim and Ellie have also hosted visitors from the U.S. who are interested in mission and who come to contribute and learn.

They currently spend winter and spring of each year in Zambia and the summer and fall in the United States with their children and grandchildren.
