Brief Biography
Can you imagine the hopelessness of not having the Word of God in your language? Michael and Bev Harrar have spent the last 27 years providing hope through Wycliffe Bible translators. Michael grew up in Hatboro, PA. Bev grew up in Mt. Vernon, PA, lived in New Jersey, then attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. Bev started serving with Wycliffe in 1980 as a single missionary in Peru. She met Michael in Colombia a year later. After their marriage, the Harrars have lived and worked for Wycliffe in Papua New Guinea (4 yrs), Quebec (18 months), Senegal (2.5 yrs) and then back to PNG, where they served since 1993. In August, 2007 they accepted a four-year state-side assignment.
Wycliffe Bible Translators work to provide the Word of God in the heart language of every people group who needs it. Michael and Bev Harrar are skilled support workers who provide vital help to the translators so that they are free to translate the Bible. Michael is also a commercial artist. He draws pictures for Scripture portions, literacy primers and public relations materials. He has taught art workshops in the village, training national artists to draw their own illustrations for literacy primers and Scripture portions. Bev is a high school English teacher who has been teaching seventh and ninth grades as well as chairing the English department at Ukarumpa International School in PNG.
The Harrars moved to Lancaster, PA on a four-year home assignment in 2007. This move will help their children settle in and finish school (high school and college) and enable Bev and Michael to help their parents who will be 90 minutes away. Michael is working as the Artist in Residence in America and Bev is with Wycliffe’s Children’s Education Department. They are open to see where God would have them server overseas after this four year assignment.
During their stay, Beverly Heights has the unique opportunity to deepen our relationship with the Harrars as partners in mission and to encourage and support them, as well as thank them for their many years spent furthering the Kingdom of God.
